Virgo 20-21° – Sabian symbol 171"A girl’s basketball team" |
Sun enters the next Sabian symbol 13/09 at 16:00 h (chart) Virgo 21-22° – Sabian symbol 172"A royal coat of arms" |
Sun in Virgo You’re coming into a new cycle centered on taking what you know and what you’ve got and then making the most of it in the real world. Assimilating information and experience, learning lessons and putting them into practice – that’s the focus as this cycle unfolds. It’s a time for prudence and stewardship, a time to tend to the details. You probably already have the grand ideals and visions: now you must get your hands dirty with the bricks and mortar and your mind busy with putting it all together.
Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts – on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.
Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Passion, jealousy, possession: these are the kinds of experiences that can flow from the intensity that courses through you at one level or another now – voracious.
Mars in Virgo As a new cycle dawns in your life, there arises a passion for details, a need to do just the right thing at just the right time, and a burning desire to have a place for everything and everything in its place. This can be hard on the digestion if taken to extremes! The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now.
Mars in Libra “I’m giving you a definite maybe” – that’s the motto of the cycle you’re now entering. It’s a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You’ll quickly learn to balance this out, or you’ll discover that there is no peace in compromise – and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation – and if anyone’s ever up to it, you are now.
Jupiter in Aquarius Innovation, reform, and idealism are your paths to growth and gain now. New, futuristic ideas are part of this, but it’s much more than that: putting them into practice is essential because this is much more than empty idealism. A break from the past, a willingness to flaunt convention.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
SEPTEMBER 12
The Moon continues its transit of intense, passionate Scorpio until 4:35 AM EDT, after which it transits truth-seeking, adventurous Sagittarius. This Moon transit is enthusiastic, confident, and forward-looking. It sparks our desire to learn, explore, and discover—a change of scenery or break in the routine appeals now. We set our sights high. Optimism is one of the positive traits of this position; neglecting to see the essential details is a potential problem. With the Moon conjunct the South Node of the Moon, we’re a little inclined to fall back on old habits and comforts, even if they’re not supportive of our growth. Attachments to the past are a strong pull. The Moon’s sextile to Saturn this afternoon can help us channel our inspiration into something concrete. We’re more thoughtful about our attachments and commitments.
The void Moon occurs from 1:33 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 4:35 AM EDT.
SEPTEMBER 13
The Moon spends the day in Sagittarius, and this afternoon, the First Quarter Moon occurs as the Sagittarius Moon forms a square to the Virgo Sun. Our initiative is strong, although it tends to come as a result of conflict or tension. It can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of great energy, motivation, and growth. We may be feeling especially ambitious and competitive. However, we may not know where to go with these feelings. We’re heading toward a Mars-Uranus sesquiquadrate, exact early tomorrow, and we can be itching for a change, but not entirely sure where to start. Of course, this can get us into a bit of trouble if we’re not mindful. As well, a Sun-Neptune opposition will occur tomorrow morning, and we can feel some of its discontent today. We’ve been paying more attention to service to others and our physical health, and we may need to take a step back for spiritual refreshment.
SEPTEMBER 14
This morning, the Sun-Neptune opposition perfects. We can feel directionless and not very up to facing everyday realities with this transit. The tendency to glamorize others or to put people on a pedestal can come to a head now, and this can extend beyond people to situations and objects. It’s a time for seeking a better balance between action and reflection. We are more sensitive and vulnerable under this influence but also quite prone to misperceiving people or situations. We might watch for projecting our unrealized dreams or wishes onto others. Willpower is low. It’s not a good time for major financial undertakings or formal agreements. The Moon continues its transit of Sagittarius until 7:34 AM when it enters serious Capricorn. This evening, the Sun and Saturn connect in a mildly challenging way, and we can become more aware of, or frustrated by, our limitations. Mars enters Libra today, where it will transit until October 30th. Mars is in its detriment in Libra (Libra opposes Mars-ruled Aries)–it’s not as comfortable in the sign as it is in most other signs and may not function at its best. We may be indirect in our approach and should watch for passive-aggressiveness during this cycle. Still, it’s a good time for actively seeking harmony and balance. We can work hard at finding compromises.
The void Moon occurs from 6:58 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 7:34 AM EDT.
Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus. A tendency to take risks, to feel restless, to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences.
Sun opposition Neptune. It’s easy to get lost in fantasy at this time, as we feel somewhat directionless and less able to face everyday realities. Willpower is low. Not a good time for any financial undertaking or formal agreement.
Sun sesquiquadrate Saturn. It’s hard to satisfy the ego today. We feel blocked by circumstances or others. It’s too easy to feel discouraged, but discouragement is a time waster. Gratitude isn’t forthcoming right now, so it’s best to wait it out rather than waste energy letting it get to you.
Sun inconjunct (quincunx) Jupiter. The desire to experience something new or for more freedom to explore can amount to restlessness if we don’t know what it is we want. This is a time of adjustments, and perhaps of letting go of old habits, so that we can free ourselves up for different experiences.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it’s wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.
Sun trine Pluto. We are able to get to the bottom of things now. We are more decisive than usual, and our abilities to concentrate and focus help us achieve what we set out to do. Endurance, the power to achieve, an opportunity to draw upon our past and to capitalize on resources, and strategy are all themes of this influence. This is a very positive aspect for starting a money-making endeavor (all things equal) or a new project. Leadership skills are in focus and strong. We are more able to connect with others in terms of shared goals and interests. The focus now is on eliminating negative or superficial elements in our lives.
Venus square Saturn. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, due to negative attitudes and the tendency to need more than what is possible. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. Emotional distance in relationships. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes.
Mercury quincunx Neptune. There can be uncertainty and indecision now, as it can be difficult to draw upon intuition or to combine logic and intuition in a cohesive manner. Alternatively, the tendency to daydream can be high, and often at the expense of productivity and clear communication.
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waxing this week, which is usually considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from Saturday, September 11th, at approximately 7:10 PM, until Sunday, September 12th, at approximately 1:30 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Scorpio.
Another window occurs from approximately 1:45 PM EDT on Friday, September 17th, to approximately 5:10 AM EDT, on Saturday, September 18th.
Although starting a business of any sort is something that few take lightly, the exact timing of the launch of a business is generally not as well thought-out. In this article, we explore some basic conditions in Astrology that favor viability and profitability of businesses–from sideline businesses to more ambitious undertakings. Timing isn’t everything, but it certainly helps.
There are other considerations for electing good times to start things, but this is a fine way to do some narrowing down or to begin the process of weeding out.
It is generally considered better to begin our projects during Moon windows when the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs is a harmonious one.
In other words, when the Moon is NOT void (before the Moon’s void period) if the last major aspect it makes is a harmonious one, such as a sextile or trine, activities are favored for positive outcomes. The harmonious last aspects are marked by an (H) and the challenging ones are marked by a (C). Conjunctions are not marked as either harmonious or challenging because they depend on the nature of the planet involved – they can be neutral, harmonious, or challenging. Generally, then, we will be looking to start projects during a period that ends with an (H) or when the last aspect is a conjunction to Venus or Jupiter.
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, September 12th, from 1:33 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 4:35 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, September 14th, from 6:58 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 7:34 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, September 16th, from 1:39 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 11:23 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, September 18th, from 5:14 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Pisces at 4:22 PM EDT.
Void periods do not necessarily deny results but results can be more challenging to achieve during void Moon periods, so it may be best to avoid starting new projects during a void Moon. The Moon phase is another important consideration for the timing of events.
This week: The Sun is in Virgo; Mercury is in Libra; Venus is in Scorpio; Mars is in Virgo until the 14th, after which Mars is in Libra.
The Sun is in Virgo from August 22 to September 22. Our focus shifts to the pieces of the puzzle–the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Tending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from “collecting” odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal time to get organized, to do detail work, and to improve communications on the job.
Mercury is in Libra from August 30-November 5. [This is longer than usual due to Mercury’s retrograde, occuring entirely in the sign of Libra, from September 27-October 18.] When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It’s a good time to think about ways to improve our negotiation skills.
Mercury in Libra can be vacillating energy as we attempt to see both sides of any given situation. Making quick decisions can be more challenging than usual, as we can sit “on the fence.” We may too easily accommodate others’ opinions to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don’t want to assert ourselves so as to appear to be the “bad guy.” However, this is a reasonable period for considering others’ points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.
Venus is in Scorpio from September 10-October 7. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. It’s a highly emotional position for Venus, and it’s passionate energy.
Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises to feel alive and vital.
Similarly, during this Venus-in-Scorpio cycle, we seek or gravitate to absorbing, deeply engaging, dramatic pleasures, activities, projects, and art. Things that are profound, disturbing, mysterious, or unusual can be more appealing now.
This can be a good time for finances, especially when working with others’ talents or resources, whether as an agent, supporter, or partner.
Mars is in Virgo from July 29-September 14. In Virgo, Mars is somewhat of a workhorse. We have a passion for details, as well as a need to do the right thing at just the right time under this influence. The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now. We are more precise and concerned about performance.
Mars is in Libra from September 14-October 30. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides to an issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don’t want to be the “bad guy”, and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style. We are indirect in approach and inclined towards engaging in mental debates, yet we also attempt to make the opposition comfortable! Passive-aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy.
Jupiter is in Aquarius from December 19th, 2020, to May 13, 2021, and then from July 28 to December 28, 2021. Read more about the Jupiter in Aquarius transit. Jupiter is in Pisces from May 13th to July 28th, when it retreats into Aquarius. Jupiter returns to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. There will be another part to this 3-part act in 2022! Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Scorpio from September 10 to October 7. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. This is a highly emotional position for Venus. It is a passionate, sensual, and intense energy.
Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises in order to feel alive and vital. If a relationship becomes too settled or predictable, we may crave more intensity and catalytic experience. Jealousies, fears of betrayal, and power games are the shadow side of Venus in Scorpio.
We may easily become obsessed with a fear that our partners might be betraying us, or that they are not as consumed by and dedicated to the relationship as us. This can lead us to try to uncover the “truth”, reading too many negative possibilities in our partners’ actions and words.
This week: On Wednesday, our hearts open to one another. However, early Thursday, we are a little prone to glamorizing people, relationships, and situations. As the day advances on Thursday and into Friday, we swing negative, fearing the worst. We might reach an impasse or obstacle. There can be a checkpoint moment for our relationships. Temporarily, we see the flaws. There can be some emotional distance or blockage, and ideally, it’s a time for reaching a new level of maturity and realism in your relationships. Relationship goals can very much clash with social life goals now.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Passion, jealousy, possession: these are the kinds of experiences that can flow from the intensity that courses through you at one level or another now – voracious.
Venus trine Jupiter September 5-6. Harmony and good will reign under this influence. Expansive feelings in love, and a feeling that anything is possible if we set our sights high enough, are experienced now. We are friendly, big-hearted, sociable, and optimistic. It is easy to make social contacts under this influence. Cheerfulness, trust, and confidence in love and social matters.
Venus parallel Jupiter September 15. We are charitable with others and have a stronger desire than usual to find meaning in our relationships. There may be some overstating or overindulgence now, however.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune September 16. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus square Saturn September 16-17. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus contra-parallel Uranus September 17-18. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus quincunx Chiron September 20. There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.
Venus opposition Uranus September 22-23. Not a good time to start relationships. Independence is the reigning need. Some fickleness. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness.
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Monday, September 13th, 2021, at 4:39 PM EDT. 10h CET
On Monday afternoon, the First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Virgo forms a square to the Moon in Sagittarius.
There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error.
Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
Pope Francis meets Viktor Orban in worldview clash
Sep 12 2021
The pope's brief stay in Hungary will be followed by a visit to smaller neighbour Slovakia of more than two days
Budapest (AFP) - Pope Francis met Sunday with Hungarian premier Viktor Orban – whose tough views on migration clash with those of the pontiff – at the start of a brief visit to Budapest where he will also celebrate a mass.
The head of 1.3 billion Catholics – in Hungary to close the International Eucharistic Congress – met Orban, accompanied by his deputy and the president, behind closed doors in Budapest’s grand Fine Arts Museum.
On the one hand, the Hungarian prime minister is a self-styled defender of “Christian Europe” from migration. On the other, Pope Francis urges help for the marginalised and those of all religions fleeing war and poverty.
The pope’s approach to meet those who don’t share his worldview – eminently Christian according to the pontiff – has often been met with incomprehension among the faithful, particularly within the ranks of traditionalist Catholics.
Pope Francis (C) met with bishops at the Museum of Fine Arts
“I asked Pope Francis not to let Christian Hungary perish,” Orban posted on his Facebook page following a photo of the two shaking hands.
The Vatican in a statement after the meeting described it as “cordial”.
“Among the various topics discussed were the role of the church in the country, the commitment to the protection of the environment, the protection and promotion of the family,” the statement said.
Over the last few years, there has been no love lost between Orban supporters in Hungary and the leader of the Catholic world.
Pro-Orban media and political figures have launched barbs at the pontiff calling him “anti-Christian” for his pro-refugee sentiments, and the “Soros Pope”, a reference to the Hungarian-born liberal US billionaire George Soros, a right-wing bete-noire.
- ‘Work together’ -
Eyebrows have also been raised over the pontiff’s whirlwind visit.
His seven-hour-long stay in Hungary will be followed immediately by an official visit to smaller neighbour Slovakia of more than two days.
Over the last few years, there has been no love lost between supporters of Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the leader of the Catholic world
In his first address during his visit – to Christian and Jewish leaders after meeting Orban as well as the country’s bishops – Pope Francis warned of “the threat of antisemitism still lurking in Europe and elsewhere”.
“This is a fuse that must not be allowed to burn. And the best way to defuse it is to work together, positively, and to promote fraternity,” the pontiff said seated.
Hungary’s 100,000-strong Jewish community is one the largest in Central Europe.
The 84-year-old pontiff’s 34th foreign trip comes two months after a colon operation that required a general anaesthetic and a ten-day convalescence in hospital.
“Sorry if I spoke sitting down. I’m not 15,” the pope said.
The Argentinian regularly reminds “old Europe” of its past, built on waves of new arrivals.
In contrast, Orban’s signature crusade against migration has included border fences and detention camps for asylum-seekers.
Orban’s supporters point instead to state-funded aid agency “Hungary Helps” which works to rebuild churches and schools in war-torn Syria, and sends doctors to Africa.

Orban’s critics, however, accuse him of using Christianity as a shield to deflect criticism and a sword to attack opponents while targeting vulnerable minorities like migrants.
Days before the pope’s arrival posters appeared on the streets of the Hungarian capital – where the city council is controlled by the anti-Orban opposition – reading “Budapest welcomes the Holy Father” and showing his quotes including pleas for solidarity and tolerance towards minorities.

Orban – who is of Calvinist Protestant background – and his wife – who is a Catholic – are to attend the Pope’s mass later Sunday to close the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress at the vast Heroes’ Square in Budapest.
Around 75,000 people have registered to attend the event, with screens and loudspeakers placed the length of a main boulevard near the square to allow others to follow the ceremony.
“We are not here for any politics, but to see and hear the pope, the head of the Church. We can hardly wait to see him. It is wonderful that he is visiting Budapest,” Eva Mandoki, 82, from Eger, some 110 kilometres (70 miles) east of the capital, told AFP.
It is the first papal trip to Hungary since Pope John Paul II in 1996.
