SEPTEMBER 23
Venus opposes Uranus this morning, and impulsive attractions to people, things, and even situations are possible. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness can be themes in our social interactions. Our feelings, attractions, or people in our lives can surprise us now. Our needs for comfort and togetherness appear to clash with the desire to be free and independent. Indeed, we can experience sudden infatuations, whether with people or material items, that later prove less appealing. As such, it’s not a good time to start a significant financial undertaking or relationship — not until rebellious feelings pass and we gain a better sense of how we honestly feel. Falling back on old patterns of relating won’t work now. Still, if we can separate rebellion from a sincere need for change, we might open ourselves to new ways of relating that accommodate our diverse needs. The Moon continues its transit of Aries until 8:39 AM EDT when it enters Taurus. This Moon stimulates our desire for comfort, warmth, and harmony. Later today, with the Moon’s square to Saturn, our responsibilities to others can seem to clash with the pursuit of this stability or peace of mind.
The void Moon continues until 8:39 AM EDT when the Moon enters Taurus.
SEPTEMBER 24
The Moon spends the day in steady, comfortable Taurus. Venus has recently opposed Uranus, and the Moon taps into the Uranus-in-Taurus side of the opposition today. We want to get comfortable, but we seem to need to do things a little differently. Earthy activities and sensual pleasures appeal now more than usual, and we’re not as inclined to go out of our way. Even so, we crave some variety and feel the desire to innovate. This transit can tempt us to overindulge our whims. While we might crave companionship and independence, and these appear to be at odds now, a compromise is within reach.
SEPTEMBER 25
The void Moon occurs from 9:10 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Pluto), until the Moon enters Gemini at 8:37 PM EDT.
Sun in Libra Meeting yourself in another person is the keynote of a new cycle which begins for you now. Relationships – romantic, business, social – are the arena where this drama is played out. In coming to know the other person, forging ties that bind two people, you come to a better understanding of yourself. It’s easy in theory, but it’s only in practice that it comes to mean anything real – so practice until you get it right!
Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts – on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.
Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Passion, jealousy, possession: these are the kinds of experiences that can flow from the intensity that courses through you at one level or another now – voracious.
Mars in Libra “I’m giving you a definite maybe” – that’s the motto of the cycle you’re now entering. It’s a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You’ll quickly learn to balance this out, or you’ll discover that there is no peace in compromise – and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation – and if anyone’s ever up to it, you are now.
Jupiter in Aquarius Innovation, reform, and idealism are your paths to growth and gain now. New, futuristic ideas are part of this, but it’s much more than that: putting them into practice is essential because this is much more than empty idealism. A break from the past, a willingness to flaunt convention.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
Note that when an aspect is applying, it has not yet happened but is within orb – it’s pending. When an aspect is separating, it has already happened/perfected and is moving away from the aspect. Depending on the speed of the planet/body involved, the aspect will have perfected–or will perfect–in a matter of hours (often the case with the Moon), days, months, and possibly years in the case of the very slow-moving outer planets and bodies.
Note that the Moon moves at a rate of approximately one degree every 2 hours so that if an aspect involving the Moon is applying and has an orb of 5 degrees, the aspect will perfect (be exact) in about 10 hours. If the Moon is separating from an aspect with an orb of 2 degrees, it has already formed said aspect approximately 4 hours ago (since the following are positions at noon today, then it would have occurred at about 8 AM today).
**I suggest paying close attention to applying aspects. The energy of the aspect builds as it gets closer to exact. Once an aspect involving inner planets has happened, it’s over. Separating aspects are good to know for context, but in terms of energy that is with us today, applying aspects are most important. (This is the case for daily astrology influences involving inner planets, which pass quickly, and not natal astrology aspects, which are with us for a lifetime).
On October 6th, the New Moon occurs in the sign of Libra, prompting a new beginning. It’s a time for taking charge of our relationships and giving them their due attention, as well as working on our negotiation and partnering skills. The resolution of conflicts is in focus and the objective.
This lunation aligns with Mars and forms a quincunx with Uranus. As such, we should watch for too-quick decisions and actions, but pay close attention to our instincts and impulses now. Mars adds more power and energy to our quest to harmonize and partner, but we can struggle a little with the idea of going our own way. As much as want these things, it can be difficult to integrate these urges into our personalities or to act upon them consistently.
Four major bodies turn direct this month: Pluto on the 6th, Saturn on the 10th, and Mercury and Jupiter on the 18th. While the shifts themselves can be a little disorienting and perhaps intense in some cases, we start to see some developments. We’re on the road to making progress.
On the 6th, Pluto turns direct after retrograde motion since late April. Intensity is with us in the days (and perhaps weeks for the sensitive) surrounding this date with a strong focus on ambition and the need to feel empowered. Over the coming weeks and months, the power to make deep changes in our lives becomes more insistent and direct (less internalized). We are less likely to brood over changes that we feel have been thrust upon us and more likely to make necessary changes.
Saturn turns direct on the 10th, serving as a strong reminder to take care of our responsibilities and bring our goals down to earth. With Saturn’s direct turn, our responsibilities, and perhaps our limitations, are magnified. Gradually, our longer-term goals and plans become clearer.
On October 18th, Jupiter turns direct. This change of direction can mark a turning of the corner with certain projects and relationships as well as attitudes–we enjoy increased enthusiasm. With Jupiter direct, our confidence in ourselves, our beliefs, and the universe builds. We are more lighthearted and ready to share ourselves and what we’ve learned with others. Friendship and happiness goals are in focus, and they’re moving along.
Also on October 18th, Mercury turns direct in the sign of Libra, and will continue its retrograde until October 18th, staying in the same sign throughout. During this period, we can be slow to reach a decision — possibly painfully slow, as our minds bounce back and forth between the alternatives, finding merits for any and all of them.
This retrograde cycle may affect our close partnerships the most. We might rethink old positions and relationships, and our observations tend to be particularly idealized. In a general sense, retrograde Mercury periods send us to the past for more or previously hidden information. They’re cycles for learning to let go of control, and for thinking about issues in a new way.
On October 20th, a Full Moon occurs in the sign of Aries, reminding us to consider how we are honoring ourselves in the context of our close relationships. New revelations can occur now, particularly regarding our physical bodies, leadership skills, ability to initiate and begin new things, and close partnerships.
This Full Moon urges us to strike a balance between meeting our personal needs and attending to the needs of a significant other, and between independence or autonomy and dependence or companionability. With the Sun forming an alignment with Mars and square to Pluto near this Full Moon, there can be pressures and a bit of paranoia attached to our realizations and the courage and passion for taking action. We can struggle with obstacles, but we’re brave, determined, and resourceful.

September 2021:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects. is waxing this week until the Full Moon on the 20th, which is usually considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waning after the Full Moon on the 20th, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, also with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Saturday, September 25th, from approximately 13:50 to 15:05 CET, while the Moon is in Taurus.
This week: The Sun is in Virgo until September 22nd, after which the Sun is in Libra; Mercury is in Libra; Venus is in Scorpio; Mars is in Libra.
The Sun is in Virgo from August 22 to September 22. Our focus shifts to the pieces of the puzzle–the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Tending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from “collecting” odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal time to get organized, to do detail work, and to improve communications on the job.
The Sun is in Libra from September 22-October 23. Libra rules relationships with others as mirrors of ourselves. Meeting others halfway, compromise, and negotiation come under the rule of Libra. The focus is now on balance–finding balance and harmony through relationships with others and through art. Libra is the sign of the peacemaker.
However, life is not always peaceful with Libra in its attempt to restore balance. Decision-making can be more challenging while the Sun is in Libra. Libra weighs both sides of any situation, and sometimes this process seems endless! In Libra, the Sun is concerned about not rocking the boat and not rubbing others the wrong way. Tactfulness, style, tolerance, and sociability are some of the keywords for Libra. On the shadow side, Libra can be self-serving, indecisive, passive-aggressive, and superficial.
Mercury is in Libra from August 30-November 5. [This is longer than usual due to Mercury’s retrograde, occuring entirely in the sign of Libra, from September 27-October 18.] When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It’s a good time to think about ways to improve our negotiation skills.
Mercury in Libra can be vacillating energy as we attempt to see both sides of any given situation. Making quick decisions can be more challenging than usual, as we can sit “on the fence.” We may too easily accommodate others’ opinions to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don’t want to assert ourselves so as to appear to be the “bad guy.” However, this is a reasonable period for considering others’ points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.
Venus is in Scorpio from September 10-October 7. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. It’s a highly emotional position for Venus, and it’s passionate energy.
Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises to feel alive and vital.
Similarly, during this Venus-in-Scorpio cycle, we seek or gravitate to absorbing, deeply engaging, dramatic pleasures, activities, projects, and art. Things that are profound, disturbing, mysterious, or unusual can be more appealing now.
This can be a good time for finances, especially when working with others’ talents or resources, whether as an agent, supporter, or partner.
Mars is in Libra from September 14-October 30. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides to an issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don’t want to be the “bad guy”, and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style. We are indirect in approach and inclined towards engaging in mental debates, yet we also attempt to make the opposition comfortable! Passive-aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy.
Jupiter is in Aquarius from December 19th, 2020, to May 13, 2021, and then from July 28 to December 28, 2021. Read more about the Jupiter in Aquarius transit. Jupiter is in Pisces from May 13th to July 28th, when it retreats into Aquarius. Jupiter returns to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. There will be another part to this 3-part act in 2022! Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Afghan women taekwondo fighters feel defeated by Taliban
Sep 23 2021
Around 130 Afghan girls and women aged 12-25 are members of a taekwondo gym in Herat, but they are not allowed to train
Herat (Afghanistan) (AFP) - Zarghunna Noori has always been a fighter, but the 22-year-old taekwondo champion – who dreamt of representing Afghanistan at the Olympics – says she has finally met her match.
“In sports when we lose we are left feeling terrible,” she told AFP at her home in the western city of Herat.
“And now we have been defeated by the Taliban.”
The Taliban’s all-male government has shut down the ministry of women’s affairs and replaced it with one that earned notoriety for enforcing religious doctrine during the hardliners’ 1996-2001 stint in power.
Although they have yet to publicise a formal policy on women in sport, the Taliban have made comments that indicate serious participation will be impossible.
With women and girls already effectively banned from work and school, fear of reprisal for practising sport is widespread.
“All our lives have been overturned,” said Noori, who since joining her provincial team a decade ago has become a national academy star, winning an Afghan title in 2018.
In Afghanistan, women have long faced open hostility to their involvement in sport
“Each and every member of the national taekwondo team dreamed that one day we would make it to the Olympics and raise the Afghan flag in other countries, in international competitions,” she said, surrounded by her medals and a golden trophy engraved ‘Best Leader’.
“But now we are all forced to stay home, and become more depressed with each passing day.”
Taekwondo’s popularity surged in Afghanistan in 2008 after local hero Rohullah Nikpai won bronze at the Beijing Olympics.
Zakia Khudadadi, 22, gave Afghans another reason to watch the Korean martial art last month when she competed in the Tokyo Paralympics.
- Sport ‘not necessary’ -
In Afghanistan, women have long faced open hostility to their involvement in sport and in rural areas it is extremely rare for them to participate.
Even in cities, many women’s leagues are at the fledgling stage.
Zakia Khudadadi gave Afghans another reason to watch taekwondo when competing in the Tokyo Paralympics
Around 130 girls and women aged 12-25 are members of a taekwondo gym in Herat, but they are not currently allowed to train and their ability to do so in the future looks bleak.
Last week, the country’s new sports chief Bashir Ahmad Rustamzai said the Taliban would allow around 400 sports – but declined to say if women could participate in any of them.
Ahmadullah Wasiq, of the Taliban’s cultural commission, also raised alarm this month by saying it was “not necessary” for women to play sport.
But the regime is under pressure: barring women from participating will likely halt recognition and funding from international sports bodies – including support for its popular cricket and football teams.
- Desperate to train -
For Noori, a fourth-year student of physical education at Kabul University, the Taliban’s draconian interpretation of sharia law is personal.
“Every woman in Afghanistan had a dream to be able to progress and reach a better place in the future,” she said, standing alongside seven other members of the national taekwondo academy.
Zahra, another member of Afghanistan's national taekwondo team, says she feels 'helpless'
“They all wanted to become role models… so that they could show the world how much we can progress.
“We all acted, practised and tried our best, but it has now come to nothing – all of it.”
Noori said many young taekwondo athletes are now in hiding, and that when they do leave their homes, they cover themselves from head-to-toe in a burqa.
The athlete is desperate to go back to training, she said, so that “ten years of hard work will not go to waste”, but now feels she will be forced to leave Afghanistan.
“No one who lives in their own country wants to ever leave it,” she told AFP.
“But the conditions are such that we don’t see common ground that will allow us to progress; it doesn’t exist in the country.”
- ‘Help us’ -
Noori called on the global sporting community to help, because “if we raise our own voices in Afghanistan, our voices will be cut off”.
Zarghunna Noori said many women taekwondo athletes in Afghanistan are now in hiding
“We ask all international, Olympic athletes and members of the Olympic Committee to help us so that we can get to a better place, even if it means to go to another country to continue our activities,” she said.
Zahra, 22, another member of the national team, also feels “helpless”.
“Even the men don’t have all their freedoms,” she said, adding the Taliban were “the same Taliban of the past”.
“Just as men are being allowed to study, women should be allowed to do so as well. They shouldn’t obstruct the path of girls and women.”
