This week: The Sun is in Aries; Mercury is in Aries until the 10th, when it moves into Taurus; Venus is in Pisces; Mars is in Aquarius to the 14th, from which time Mars is in Pisces.
The Sun is in Aries from March 20-April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive and have the urge to initiate.
Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little in the way of shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Mercury is in Aries from March 27-April 10. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.
There can be quick, possibly impatient or hurried, decisions during this cycle, and our responses are similar: quick and perhaps defensive or combative. We value independent thought, and we can be mentally competitive. executive decisions. We prefer to learn through personal experience, not instruction.
Mercury is in Taurus from April 10-29. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking.
Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking. It’s a time of practical intelligence and comfortably-paced decisions and thought processes. We’re capable of (and content with) rote, routine, deliberate, or monotonous work and methods.
Venus is in Pisces from April 5-May 2. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach, as there is a longing for something that is difficult to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be deceived because we want to believe, as well as evasiveness. We should watch for falling in love with an idealized image of something or someone. It’s also important to watch for avoidant or indirect behavior.
Venus is exalted in Pisces and does well in the sign. It’s devoted, compassionate, exceptionally giving, and capable of sacrifice. We might refer heavily on our intuition with our finances and love life during this cycle. We gravitate to–and appreciate–unusual, tossed aside, poetic, artistic objects, situations, and people. We seek activities that move, inspire, or touch us.
Money may slip through our fingers, or we could turn a blind eye to some of the practical elements of our lives now. However, finances improve if we connect with our otherworldly talents, imagination, desire to heal and serve, or sense of mission.
This transit is not particularly strong for resolve or determination, but it’s good for adaptability and increased understanding or acceptance.
Mars is in Aquarius from March 6-April 14. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power.
We are attracted to unconventional methods, and we tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective during the Mars-in-Aquarius cycle.
Mars is in Pisces from April 14-May 24. We tend to feel less motivated to go after traditional goals, and more motivated to pursue spiritual or emotional drives during this cycle. We dislike confrontation during this trend. Our output is variable rather than straightforward, and our energy is similarly up and down.
We may put others’ needs ahead of our own, and our more idealistic side comes to the fore. During this cycle, going after what we want becomes less straightforward and more complicated!

Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from April 5 to May 2. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable.
Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners.

The Moon spends the day in the sign of Leo, and it harmonizes with the Aries Sun this evening but also opposes Saturn. It can be a time of a stronger than usual desire to express ourselves and interact. We also crave meaning, wisdom, and mental stimulation. The Moon’s trine to the Sun can produce free-spirited but cooperative energy. However, differences in opinion or perceived indifference in others can elevate our frustrations and may feel more problematic than usual, blocking progress or leading to delays.

While practical considerations might often take a back seat these days with this Jupiter-Neptune influence in play, today’s Sun-Saturn sextile reminds us to plan and get organized. It’s an excellent influence for preparing and attending to our practical affairs. We’re giving our priorities extra attention and our best efforts. This transit helps ground us, or at the least, provides us with a sense of rhythm and helps us pace ourselves. L’équinoxe de printemps 20 mars 2022
Dimanche 20 mars c’est le début du printemps pour l’hémisphère nord…
C’est l’équinoxe de mars qui défini le début du printemps (ou de l’automne pour l’hémisphère sud). L’équinoxe est un phénomène astronomique qui correspond au moment où le Soleil se retrouve pile dans l’alignement de l’équateur, comme dans le schéma ci-dessus. Cela signifie que le soleil est au zénith de l’équateur et qu’il éclaire la terre perpendiculairement à son axe de rotation. C’est la raison pour laquelle, lors de l’équinoxe et donc lors du passage de l’hiver au printemps (ou de l’été à l’automne) le jour et la nuit sont de durée égale (équinoxe, du latin aequus: égal et nox, noctis: nuit).
Pourquoi le jour et la nuit sont-ils de durée égale seulement à l’équinoxe?
Comprendre le phénomène des saisons est la première étape pour bien comprendre le phénomène des équinoxes. Si nous avons des saisons sur la Terre, c’est parce que son axe de rotation est incliné d’environ 23° (par rapport au plan de rotation de la Terre autour du Soleil). En effet la Terre ne tourne pas sur elle-même comme une toupie tournant de façon bien droite, mais plutôt comme un gyroscope. C’est donc parce que la Terre est inclinée, que le Soleil ne l’éclaire pas de la même façon tout au long de l’année. La vidéo ainsi que les schémas ci-dessous permettent une vision claire du phénomène. En hémisphère nord, la durée d’ensoleillement diminue pendant six mois de l’année pour augmenter à nouveau pendant les six mois suivants, les deux points culminant de cette variation étant le solstice d’hiver (durée du jour la plus courte de l’année) et le solstice d’été (durée du jour la plus longue de l’année). L’équinoxe quant à lui, correspond au milieu de ces deux extrêmes.
Lors de sa rotation annuelle autour du Soleil, la Terre se retrouve donc deux fois dans la position où le Soleil est pile à la verticale de l’équateur. Une première fois en mars, lors de l’équinoxe de printemps et une seconde en septembre, lors de l’équinoxe d’automne.

The Coming Jupiter–Neptune Conjunction
An important cosmic event will happen in about three days: a Jupiter-Neptune conjunction will take place on April 12, at 14:43 GMT. In fact, it won't be just a conjunction, the planets will also be close to a precise parallel of declination (the parallel will be precise on the previous day). (If you are not familiar with declination and parallels, pay attention to an announcement below.) So this will be like a super-conjunction. Some schools of astrology would call it an occultation, others — a "planetary eclipse". Let's also not forget that both Jupiter and Neptune will be in the sign of their dignity, so their impact on the world will, most probably, be very noticeable. What kind of impact that could be? Many astrologers in anticipation of this conjunction wrote about a heightened spiritual awareness, mystical insights, idealism and generosity, and other such generally positive things. And they were correct in doing that, of course. Reinhold Ebertin wrote in his COSI book that the combination of Jupiter's and Neptune's energies is associated with the love of humanity, idealism, mysticism, interest in art. Michael Munkasey wrote in his Midpoints book that this pair produces "Expansiveness and wholesome joviality combined with confusion and neglect to bring an inner focus upon and/or elaboration of daydreams or visions... and a belief that goals and obligations can be explained away as you tire of meeting them". Charles Harvey wrote in Mundane Astrology that Jupiter-Neptune cycle "has a strongly idealistic, humanitarian and ideological quality about it", and that it is related to the unfoldment of idealistic and religious belief systems. I see this coming conjunction from a somewhat different viewpoint. Back in December, in Issue #130 of Lunarium News, I wrote about Jupiter's ingress into Pisces. I didn't like it: in the chart cast for Moscow Mars was exactly on the Ascendant, in a precise aspect with Pluto and in a quincunx with unpredictable Uranus. I also noticed that on the astrocartography map the line of Mars was coming not far from Moscow and then across the Ukraine. I wrote: "It looks to me like someone might be overly optimistic about their power, and keen to expand". Now we can see how it worked out: Putin got overly optimistic indeed and started what he hoped to be a blitzkrieg. That plan failed, but nevertheless Putin succeeded in the information war, in keeping a great part of Russia's population, and even some foreigners, under the delusion of Russia doing a good and necessary thing to restore its greatness. Using for this tightly controlled mass media, of course. So this is another way how Jupiter and Neptune can manifest themselves in Pisces: producing shameless but powerful lies that attempt to hide away even the most horrible of atrocities. How could this pair of planets manifest itself in the near future? One possibility is that Putin's regime will attempt to somehow disguise the failure of his campaign, even if only in the eyes of Russia's population. But there remains other, more negative possibility: the use of chemical weapons, which is now often mentioned as a possibility in the news of the war. Perhaps as a provocation. In that case, the Jupiter-Neptune-on-the-Descendant line passing through Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and other countries might hint to us something. Or maybe some political scandal will happen there. |

France's Macron steps up campaign against Le Pen

Five years on, a return match
Paris (AFP) - French President Emmanuel Macron embarked Monday on a final fortnight of campaigning against his far-right rival Marine Le Pen for a French presidential run-off shaping up to be a much closer fight than their contest five years ago.
Macron came out on top in Sunday’s first round of voting with 27.85 percent, with Le Pen second at 23.15 percent. As the top two finishers, they advance to a second round on April 24.
Far-left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon came close, after a late surge gave him a score of just under 22 percent.
The Macron-Le Pen duel is a replay of the 2017 election final from which Macron emerged victorious with 66 percent. This time however, polls suggest it will be a closer contest.
Macron waded into crowds in Denain, northern France, on Monday.
Making an aggressive start to the next phase of the campaign, Macron spent hours meeting voters in Denain, a former steel town in northern France where he finished third on Sunday behind Le Pen and Melenchon.
“I’m not going to pretend nothing happened, I have heard the message from those who voted for the extremes, including those who voted for Mrs Le Pen,” Macron told a scrum of journalists who followed him.
“I realise that people will vote for me to stop her, but I want to convince people. So I may possibly round out my project” with more social welfare measures, he said.
- ‘Work for it’ -
Le Pen met with her campaign team Monday before resuming her months-long grassroots efforts in small towns and rural France later in the week, starting with a visit to a grain farm southeast of Paris.
“A sad repetition,” left-leaning daily Liberation called the new Macron-Le Pen duel on Monday, adding: “This time it’s really scary.”
Polls gauging second-round voting intentions mostly point to around 53 percent for Macron and 47 percent for Le Pen.
One poll, however, by the Ifop-Fiducial group suggested Macron could have only a razor-thin win with 51 percent versus 49 percent.
Marine Le Pen resumed her on-the-ground tour of France by bus on Monday.
While her opponents accuse her of being divisive and racist, Le Pen has sought to project a more moderate image in this campaign and has focused on voters’ daily worries over inflation.
“The second round is the hardest one,” Macron’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire told RTL radio. “Everything begins again with a new campaign.”
Both candidates will now scramble to woo voters of their defeated first-round rivals.
“We’re going to have to win over the French people who didn’t vote for Emmanuel Macron in the first round,” government spokesman Gabriel Attal told the France Inter broadcaster on Monday.
In an early boost for the president, Communist Party candidate Fabien Roussel, Socialist Anne Hidalgo, Yannick Jadot of the Greens and right-wing Republicans candidate Valerie Pecresse said they would vote for him to prevent the far-right leader coming to power.
French elections: votes for Macron, Le Pen and Melenchon
Melenchon told his supporters not to give a “single vote” to Le Pen, but he stopped short of backing Macron directly.
“If Macron wants to convince our voters, he’s going have to work for it,” said Melenchon’s campaign director, Manuel Bompard.
Meanwhile Le Pen’s far-right rival Eric Zemmour, who garnered just over seven percent on Sunday, threw his weight behind her.
A pivotal moment in the next stage of the campaign will come on April 20 when the two candidates take part in a live TV debate, just like five years ago when a better-prepared Macron won the day.
But this time will be different, said political scientist Brice Tenturier. Macron, he said, “is no longer the new candidate representing a kind of freshness” while Le Pen “is no longer the person people automatically reject”.
Macron is expected to target her past admiration for Russian leader Vladimir Putin, an explosive issue during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- ‘Critical state’ -
Part of the battle will be to mobilise the 26 percent of registered voters who abstained in the first round, a sharp increase from the first round of five years ago.
The candidates from France’s traditional parties of government – the Socialists and the Republicans – suffered humiliating defeats.
Sunday’s vote spelled disaster for Hidalgo, the Socialist mayor of Paris, who won only 1.75 percent, a historic low for the party which only a decade ago won the presidency.
The vote for the right-wing Republicans party, headed by nominee Pecresse, collapsed to 4.78 percent from 20 percent in 2017.
On Monday, Pecresse admitted her campaign finances, which included five million euros ($5.5 million) of her own money, were in a “critical” state, and called for donations from supporters.
Public campaign spending reimbursements are drastically reduced for candidates who fail to reach five percent.

Paris stocks, euro gain on Macron vote result

The euro rose against the dollar before paring the gain, suggesting relief at the French election but ongoing wariness
London (AFP) - The Paris stock market and the euro rose on Monday, with investors soothed by French President Emmanuel Macron’s election performance.
Frankfurt and London equities however followed Asian exchanges lower, with sentiment souring on flat UK economic growth.
Wall Street opened on the downside as traders looked ahead to inflation data due out on Tuesday, growth worries and the prospect of more aggressive US interest rate hikes.
Oil prices tumbled more than five percent at one point on Chinese demand fears arising from Covid lockdowns, and on dimming hope of a European embargo on Russian crude, dealers said.
“It is above all the bad news from China that is weighing on prices, as the number of Covid cases continues to surge,” said Commerzbank analyst Barbara Lambrecht.
Shanghai eased restrictions on some neighbourhoods on Monday after mounting outcry over China’s inflexible Covid-19 rules, which locked down 25 million people.
“The lockdowns that are slowing oil demand in the world’s second-largest consumer country threaten to persist for even longer,” added Lambrecht.
- ‘Solid result’ -
Macron topped France’s first-round presidential vote on Sunday, leading far-right rival Marine Le Pen by a larger-than-expected margin.
Emmanuel Macron won 27.85 percent of votes in the first round of France’s presidential election, while far-right leader Marine Le Pen scored 23.15 percent, according to final results.
“A solid result for incumbent Emmanuel Macron … has helped to allay fears of a Le Pen presidency,” said economist Jessica Hinds at research consultancy Capital Economics.
“But the latest polls still point to a very tight race.”
Investors had fretted about the implications of a victory for Le Pen in the midst of the war in Ukraine, given her long-standing sympathies for Russia.
“All attention will now turn to the second round on April 24, and the big question for that will be where the supporters of the defeated first-round candidates go,” wrote Deutsche Bank analysts in a client note.
On the downside, London stocks slid on official data showing that the UK economy had ground to a near halt in February, growing by just 0.1 percent.
- Dollar eyes 2002 yen peak -
Elsewhere, the dollar hit a 2015 high at 125.77 yen on expectations of more US Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, in contrast with the Bank of Japan’s loose policy.
That was not far from the greenback’s two-decade peak of 125.86 yen.
The Fed has recently taken a hawkish tone as it embarks on an aggressive tightening path to counter runaway inflation.
In China, factory-gate inflation was higher than expected in March, official data showed, as Russia’s war on Ukraine pushes up oil prices while a domestic Covid-19 resurgence strains food supplies and consumer costs.
The producer price index – measuring the cost of goods at the factory gate – grew 8.3 percent on-year, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) figures showed.
In Jakarta, Indonesia’s biggest tech firm GoTo soared on its debut after a billion-dollar IPO – the world’s fifth-biggest this year.
