On October 6th, the New Moon occurs in the sign of Libra, prompting a new beginning. It’s a time for taking charge of our relationships and giving them their due attention, as well as working on our negotiation and partnering skills. The resolution of conflicts is in focus and the objective.
This lunation aligns with Mars and forms a quincunx with Uranus. As such, we should watch for too-quick decisions and actions, but pay close attention to our instincts and impulses now. Mars adds more power and energy to our quest to harmonize and partner, but we can struggle a little with the idea of going our own way. As much as want these things, it can be difficult to integrate these urges into our personalities or to act upon them consistently.
Four major bodies turn direct this month: Pluto on the 6th, Saturn on the 10th, and Mercury and Jupiter on the 18th. While the shifts themselves can be a little disorienting and perhaps intense in some cases, we start to see some developments. We’re on the road to making progress.
On the 6th, Pluto turns direct after retrograde motion since late April. Intensity is with us in the days (and perhaps weeks for the sensitive) surrounding this date with a strong focus on ambition and the need to feel empowered. Over the coming weeks and months, the power to make deep changes in our lives becomes more insistent and direct (less internalized). We are less likely to brood over changes that we feel have been thrust upon us and more likely to make necessary changes.
Saturn turns direct on the 10th, serving as a strong reminder to take care of our responsibilities and bring our goals down to earth. With Saturn’s direct turn, our responsibilities, and perhaps our limitations, are magnified. Gradually, our longer-term goals and plans become clearer.
On October 18th, Jupiter turns direct. This change of direction can mark a turning of the corner with certain projects and relationships as well as attitudes–we enjoy increased enthusiasm. With Jupiter direct, our confidence in ourselves, our beliefs, and the universe builds. We are more lighthearted and ready to share ourselves and what we’ve learned with others. Friendship and happiness goals are in focus, and they’re moving along.
Also on October 18th, Mercury turns direct in the sign of Libra, and will continue its retrograde until October 18th, staying in the same sign throughout. During this period, we can be slow to reach a decision — possibly painfully slow, as our minds bounce back and forth between the alternatives, finding merits for any and all of them.
This retrograde cycle may affect our close partnerships the most. We might rethink old positions and relationships, and our observations tend to be particularly idealized. In a general sense, retrograde Mercury periods send us to the past for more or previously hidden information. They’re cycles for learning to let go of control, and for thinking about issues in a new way.
On October 20th, a Full Moon occurs in the sign of Aries, reminding us to consider how we are honoring ourselves in the context of our close relationships. New revelations can occur now, particularly regarding our physical bodies, leadership skills, ability to initiate and begin new things, and close partnerships.
This Full Moon urges us to strike a balance between meeting our personal needs and attending to the needs of a significant other, and between independence or autonomy and dependence or companionability. With the Sun forming an alignment with Mars and square to Pluto near this Full Moon, there can be pressures and a bit of paranoia attached to our realizations and the courage and passion for taking action. We can struggle with obstacles, but we’re brave, determined, and resourceful.

OCTOBER 2
A Venus-Pluto sextile early today gently breaks down barriers, helping us with new insight into our needs for love or pleasure and our money situation. This morning’s Sun-Venus semi-square, however, can pull up irritations. While they can seem to stem from others, they may very well reflect inner uneasiness. We can be especially hungry for others’ appreciation. What we want to do and think we should do can be at odds now, and we may not be very productive with this kind of discontent. Ideally, we look for creative solutions for dissatisfaction. With the Moon in Leo opposite Jupiter and square Venus, the tendency may be to go over the top. However, we’re in good shape for connecting with our affections and creative nature.
The void Moon occurs from 7:43 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Virgo tomorrow, Sunday, October 3rd, at 4:38 AM EDT.
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
Sun in Libra Meeting yourself in another person is the keynote of a new cycle which begins for you now. Relationships – romantic, business, social – are the arena where this drama is played out. In coming to know the other person, forging ties that bind two people, you come to a better understanding of yourself. It’s easy in theory, but it’s only in practice that it comes to mean anything real – so practice until you get it right!
Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts – on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.
Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Passion, jealousy, possession: these are the kinds of experiences that can flow from the intensity that courses through you at one level or another now – voracious.
Mars in Libra “I’m giving you a definite maybe” – that’s the motto of the cycle you’re now entering. It’s a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You’ll quickly learn to balance this out, or you’ll discover that there is no peace in compromise – and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation – and if anyone’s ever up to it, you are now.
Jupiter in Aquarius Innovation, reform, and idealism are your paths to growth and gain now. New, futuristic ideas are part of this, but it’s much more than that: putting them into practice is essential because this is much more than empty idealism. A break from the past, a willingness to flaunt convention.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

The Meaning of the Void-of-Course Moon
In Horary Astrology, we are looking at the contacts with planets which the Moon is going to make before it leaves the sign it is in. Those aspects will tell us what is going to happen about the situation in question. But if the Moon is void-of-course, i.e. it isn't going to contact any planets before the end of the story, then the only possible answer is that nothing is going to happen. So if a person asked "will I get married", the answer will be perceived as negative, but if someone was worried and asked "will I get fired?" then the answer nothing is going to happen happen would be perceived as positive.
Similarly, in daily life void-of-course periods aren't necessarily bad. We just need to keep these words in mind: nothing is going to happen, and then see if this is what we want or not.
One day I had two job interviews, one a few hours after another but both during a void-of-course period. Both interviews were positive, and from my previous experience I would think that I am going to have two job offers by the end of the day. However, before the end of the day the Moon had entered another sign of the zodiac, another story had started, and not only I hadn't received any job offers, I never got any feedback from the job agencies, which was quite unusual.
On the other hand, on a few occasions I had to get certain things done in a country where many officials are famous for being corrupt. I was worried that they will challenge me, and since I don't know how to give bribes I'll be in trouble. However, both situations happened during void-of-course periods of the Moon, and everything went unbelievably smoothly, to my huge relief.
Not so long ago, I found an article by Estelle Daniels in the old 1997 Llewellyn's Moon Sign Book. The article is titled Using the Void-of-Course Moon, and it offers some great ideas and examples. Quoting from this article,
During a void Moon you should not sign a contract, make plans, close a deal, or start a project. Basically anything which you want to have a concrete real-world result should not be started, signed or sealed. If you do, these things will never get off the ground, never materialize, have to be re-done, or have so many problems and setbacks as to be useless anyhow.
On the other hand,
... if you want to drop a bombshell, and yet have fewer repercussions in the long run, during the void-of-course Moon is the time to do it.
And then goes a brilliant example:
Remember President Reagan, the "Teflon® President", who never got blamed for any of the bad stuff? Well he was very careful to schedule those presidential news conferences where he would answer the hard questions about nasty controversial stuff during void Moons. There would be questions and discussions, yet the next day nothing would ever really be said in the paper or on TV. The topic was just dropped, forgotten, or glossed over, and nobody really ever noticed. The void Moon was Reagan's Teflon®. Even in August 1988, when Nancy Reagan admitted at the Republican national convention on live TV with Dan Rather that the Reagans used astrology, it was during a void Moon, and nobody really noticed or cared. … Of course, when President Reagan had something had something wonderful to say which would make him look him good and he wanted people to notice, he was very careful to make sure the Moon was not void-of-course, so he would receive maximum notice and credit.
So it looks like the void-of-course periods were given to us as a time for those little stories which we don't want to be written into the books of our lives. They are a little bit like little stickers with a few words which you can stick somewhere in a book - they are there, and not there at the same time.
How To Find Out When The Next Void-Of-Course Period Is
We do agree that void-of-course periods are important, don't we?
Now, the bad news is that it can be difficult to figure out when exactly those periods take place. That's not a kind of information you can find in a typical calendar or a newspaper (at least not in those calendars and newspapers I am aware of), and you can't just calculate them on a piece of paper. It takes a few pages of astronomical formulas to do all the necessary calculations.
The good news however is that these days pretty much everyone has some sort of computer at hand, be it a desktop, a notebook or a smartphone. And those computers are more than happy to do for us all the tedious calculations in a split of a second. For more than a decade I am working on various software programs that make basic astrology available for everyone, and here are the solutions I can offer right now for those who want to keep track of the void-of-course Moon:
- The Universal Lunar Calendar. Its benefit is that it is available to everyone for free, and you can calculate a calendar for pretty much every year, and for more or less any location on the Earth. The downside is that it might require a little bit of effort to figure out what all those symbols mean, and the information in the calendar is somewhat dense. Another downside is the platform on which the Calendar is built, which is Google AppEngine, is a bit flaky. You might need to reload the page a few times until it will stop reporting a weird error and start showing the real stuff.
- iLuna app, which currently exists in two versions: iLuna for iOS and iLuna for Android. These apps are very handy when you are on the go because they don't need any Internet connection to work.
I would be also very happy if you found it possible to share with me your void-of-course Moon experiences. My email address is master@lunarium.co.uk.

Trump asks court to get him back on Twitter
Oct 02 2021
Former US president Donald Trump pumps his fist after addressing a conservative conference in Texas in July 2021
Washington (AFP) - Donald Trump has filed suit asking a court to reinstate his account on Twitter and restore the online voice he lost for allegedly instigating the Capitol Hill riot.
Twitter and other social media banned the former president from their platforms after a mob of pro-Trump supporters assaulted the US Congress building on January 6.
They were riled up by a speech hours earlier in which Trump hammered away at his false claims that the election he lost to Joe Biden was stolen from him.
Twitter said at the time that Trump tweets leading up to his removal violated its policy against glorifying violence and were likely to cause people to mimic what happened on January 6.
In the filing Friday in a Florida federal court, Trump argued that the platform that served as his main megaphone for reaching his millions of conservative followers was “coerced” into suspending him by members of the US Congress.
At the time he was banned Trump had more than 88 million Twitter followers.
Twitter, the filing argues, “exercises a degree of power and control over political discourse in this country that is immeasurable, historically unprecedented, and profoundly dangerous to open democratic debate.”
The suit notes that the Taliban, in power in Afghanistan now and still considered a terrorist organization by the United States, is allowed to have a Twitter account.
That account appeared on August 8 and “over the weeks that followed Twitter allowed the Taliban to tweet regularly about their military conquests and victories across Afghanistan.”
Banning Trump but not the Taliban amounts to “ludicrous incongruity” on the part of Twitter, the suit alleges.
Contacted by AFP, Twitter declined to comment on Trump’s move.
Trump continues to hold a tight grip on the Republican Party and after keeping a low profile for some months after the election, he has resumed holding election-style rallies, often dropping hints that he will run again for the White House in 2024.
