New Moon in Libra Chart: October 6, 2021

OCTOBER 5

Today’s Mercury-Neptune quincunx tends to diffuse our concentration or focus. We might waver with uncertainty as it can be challenging to combine logic and intuition cohesively. Or, the tendency to daydream comes at the expense of productivity and clear communication. There can be some mental disorganization to manage. With Mercury retrograde, the chances of error increase further. A dilemma we encountered in mid-September might resurface. The Moon continues its transit of Virgo until 8:41 AM EDT, after with the Moon is in Libra, and we’re looking to build more harmony and balance in our lives, particularly in our relationships. While the Moon’s trine to Saturn this evening is stabilizing, a Mars-Uranus aspect that’s exact tomorrow morning can stir some restlessness tonight. A New Moon will also occur tomorrow morning, and we can feel on the verge of something important. It’s best to wind down at this stage in the lunar cycle, allowing our intuition to guide us.

The void Moon occurs from 4:46 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Libra at 8:41 AM EDT.

OCTOBER 6

The New Moon occurs this morning in the sign of Libra. This is a time to re-balance our relationships and recognize our partners as teammates rather than adversaries. With this potent Libra energy, we have the chance to make valuable changes in our lives. We’re learning to make peace with others and establish a sense of order and balance in our lives. Peace and harmony are the goals, but there’s a delicate balancing act involved along the way that requires some commitment and effort. This New Moon brings fresh and creative energy into our lives, and more specifically, our relationships. It’s a cycle in which balancing our close personal relationships becomes an urgent desire. Even so, the route to peace may be a conflict-ridden one! New beginnings with relationships, negotiations, or contracts can involve some challenges and looking back before moving forward. Both Mars and the Sun form a quincunx to Uranus today (the Sun and Mars are heading toward alignment, exact early on the 8th). We could be dealing with minor changes of plans or a restless urge for change that interferes with the flow. Some fear of change can stop us in our tracks, temporarily. Our efforts to satisfy our desires can miss the mark, but this gives us a chance to make refinements and recalibrate. Today’s Venus-Mars semi-square can add to a tense and competitive environment. This transit has a way of highlighting differences in our approaches, desires, and needs, and tensions in relationships can result. As well, Pluto stations and turns direct today, and there can be inner rumblings as we sense something is coming. Pluto’s direct turn comes now after over five months of retrograde motion (Pluto turned retrograde on April 27th), and its station adds intensity to all we do and feel today and this week. Over the coming weeks, our power to make profound changes in our lives is more externalized, insistent, and direct. We are less likely to brood over changes that we feel were thrust upon us and more likely to take things into our own hands and make necessary changes. For now, we can feel on the fence.

The Last Quarter Moon or Third Quarter Moon phase occurs when the Moon is 270 degrees after the Sun.

This is a time of action, but it's about reviewing, receiving, paying, planning, closing, sorting, storing, and reaping. Most suitable activities now include paying debts, asking for money owed to us, giving rewards, receiving rewards, making evaluations, taking inventory, tying up loose ends, dealing with people and matters from the past, contacting people from the past, dealing with endings, acting with wisdom and maturity, and letting go if necessary. This is an accountable time when following the rules is most appropriate.

The Moon Is Void

Usually when the Moon is "void" or "void of course," it's a time for reflection rather than taking new action. Initiatives begun now may not amount to much or they can be slow/hard going. Please note that there are different ways to calculate the void period.

Mercury Is Retrograde  While Mercury is retrograde, it is better to review, reflect, and revise than to begin new projects. There can be communication and transportation breakdowns, but also new insights into old matters.

Jupiter Rx  In 2021, Jupiter is retrograde from June 20 to October 18. It's not unusual for Jupiter to be retrograde--in fact, it's retrograde approximately 32% of the time. Jupiter transits Pisces and Aquarius during its retrograde cycle this year. During this period, we might explore different or unusual perspectives, belief systems, or sets of morals. Temporarily, we may not feel as lucky in an outward sense or optimistic. Our enthusiasm for current projects may wane a little as we slow down and re-examine things. This can naturally help us pace ourselves.

Saturn Rx  In 2021, Saturn is retrograde from May 23 to October 10. It's not unusual for Saturn to be retrograde since it's retrograde approximately 38% of the time. In 2021, Saturn is in Aquarius during its retrograde cycle. During this period..."Slowing down makes sense. Expansion or additions to our existing responsibilities and projects can be stressful now. We need to reduce and simplify. Delays may occur now, but these give us the chance to correct our errors and refine our work."

Uranus Rx  Uranus is retrograde approximately 40% of the time! Uranus is retrograde from August 19th, 2021, to January 18th, 2022. During the retrograde Uranus cycle, we're less overt with our crusades, rebellions, or freedom-seeking. We might get in touch with has prevented us from livin

Neptune Rx  Neptune is often retrograde--approximately 43% of the time! In 2021, Neptune retrogrades from June 25th to December 1st

Pluto Rx  Pluto is retrograde approximately 45% of the time. In 2021, Pluto is retrograde from April 27th to October 6th.

On October 6th, the New Moon occurs in the sign of Libra, prompting a new beginning. It’s a time for taking charge of our relationships and giving them their due attention, as well as working on our negotiation and partnering skills. The resolution of conflicts is in focus and the objective.

This lunation aligns with Mars and forms a quincunx with Uranus. As such, we should watch for too-quick decisions and actions, but pay close attention to our instincts and impulses now. Mars adds more power and energy to our quest to harmonize and partner, but we can struggle a little with the idea of going our own way. As much as want these things, it can be difficult to integrate these urges into our personalities or to act upon them consistently.

Four major bodies turn direct this month: Pluto on the 6th, Saturn on the 10th, and Mercury and Jupiter on the 18th. While the shifts themselves can be a little disorienting and perhaps intense in some cases, we start to see some developments. We’re on the road to making progress.

On the 6th, Pluto turns direct after retrograde motion since late April. Intensity is with us in the days (and perhaps weeks for the sensitive) surrounding this date with a strong focus on ambition and the need to feel empowered. Over the coming weeks and months, the power to make deep changes in our lives becomes more insistent and direct (less internalized). We are less likely to brood over changes that we feel have been thrust upon us and more likely to make necessary changes.

Saturn turns direct on the 10th, serving as a strong reminder to take care of our responsibilities and bring our goals down to earth. With Saturn’s direct turn, our responsibilities, and perhaps our limitations, are magnified. Gradually, our longer-term goals and plans become clearer.

On October 18th, Jupiter turns direct. This change of direction can mark a turning of the corner with certain projects and relationships as well as attitudes–we enjoy increased enthusiasm. With Jupiter direct, our confidence in ourselves, our beliefs, and the universe builds. We are more lighthearted and ready to share ourselves and what we’ve learned with others. Friendship and happiness goals are in focus, and they’re moving along.

Also on October 18th, Mercury turns direct in the sign of Libra, and will continue its retrograde until October 18th, staying in the same sign throughout. During this period, we can be slow to reach a decision — possibly painfully slow, as our minds bounce back and forth between the alternatives, finding merits for any and all of them.

This retrograde cycle may affect our close partnerships the most. We might rethink old positions and relationships, and our observations tend to be particularly idealized. In a general sense, retrograde Mercury periods send us to the past for more or previously hidden information. They’re cycles for learning to let go of control, and for thinking about issues in a new way.

On October 20th, a Full Moon occurs in the sign of Aries, reminding us to consider how we are honoring ourselves in the context of our close relationships. New revelations can occur now, particularly regarding our physical bodies, leadership skills, ability to initiate and begin new things, and close partnerships.

This Full Moon urges us to strike a balance between meeting our personal needs and attending to the needs of a significant other, and between independence or autonomy and dependence or companionability. With the Sun forming an alignment with Mars and square to Pluto near this Full Moon, there can be pressures and a bit of paranoia attached to our realizations and the courage and passion for taking action. We can struggle with obstacles, but we’re brave, determined, and resourceful.

'Massive' child sex abuse in French Catholic Church, inquiry finds

The French Catholic Church expressed "shame and horror" over the abuse and asked for "forgiveness"

Paris (AFP) - French Catholic clergy sexually abused around 216,000 minors spanning seven decades since 1950, a “massive phenomenon” that was covered up by a “veil of silence,” an independent commission said Tuesday.

The commission’s two-and-a-half-year inquiry and 2,500-page report prompted outrage as the Catholic Church in France and around the world faces a growing number of abuse claims and prosecutions.

Pope Francis expressed “great pain” over the “appalling” findings, a Vatican spokesman said, adding: “His thoughts turn first to the victims, with great sorrow for their wounds and gratitude for their courage in speaking out.”

The report found that the “vast majority” of victims were pre-adolescent boys from a variety of social backgrounds. Their abusers were mainly priests, bishops, deacons and monks.

When claims against lay members of the Church, such as teachers at Catholic schools are included, the number of child abuse victims climbs to 330,000 since 1950, the report found.

“These figures are more than worrying, they are damning and in no way can remain without a response,” commission chief Jean-Marc Sauve told a press conference that unveiled the nearly 2,500-page report.

“Until the early 2000s, the Catholic Church showed a profound and even cruel indifference towards the victims.”

Archbishop Eric de Moulins-Beaufort, president of the Bishops’ Conference of France (CEF), which co-requested the report, expressed his “shame and horror” at the findings.

“My wish today is to ask forgiveness from each of you,” he told the news conference.

- ‘Deviant system’ -

Sauve denounced the “systemic character” of efforts to shield clergy from sex abuse claims and urged the Church to pay reparations even though most cases are well beyond the statute of limitations for prosecution.

His commission detailed 45 recommendations to avoid further abuse, not least a requirement that priests inform prosecutors of any child abuse during the sacrament of confession – under Catholic doctrine priests are usually bound to absolute secrecy.

“We expect clear and concrete responses by the Church,” a collective of six victims’ associations said.

The report, at nearly 2,500 pages, found that the “vast majority” of victims were pre-adolescent boys from a variety of social backgrounds.

“The Catholic Church is, after the circle of family and friends, the environment that has the highest prevalence of sexual violence,” the report said.

Sauve had already told AFP on Sunday that a “minimum estimate” of 2,900 to 3,200 clergy members had sexually abused children in the French Church since 1950.

Yet only a handful of cases prompted disciplinary action under canonical law, let alone criminal prosecution.

The commission began its work after Pope Francis vowed to address abuse by priests in May 2019, ordering people aware of cases to report them to Church officials.

In France in particular, the case of Philippe Barbarin, an archbishop initially convicted of not telling police of a priest’s abuse of boy scouts, drew outrage after he was acquitted in January 2020.

Francois Devaux, head of a victims’ association, condemned a “deviant system” and called for a new “Vatican III” council to chart a way forward.

- ‘Dumbfounded’ -

“You have finally given an institutional recognition to victims of all the Church’s responsibilities, something that bishops and the pope have not yet been prepared to do,” Devaux said at the news conference.

“I’m dumbfounded,” said Yolande Ormancey, a 63-year-old parishioner praying Tuesday at the Fourviere basilica in Lyon, southeast France.

“I expect these criminals to be punished, and support offered to victims whose lives have been ruined,” she said.

The victim estimates were largely based on a representative study carried out by France’s INSERM health and medical research institute.

Sauve and his team of 21 specialists, all unaffiliated with the Church, also interviewed hundreds of people who came forward to tell their stories.

“If the veil of silence covering the acts committed has finally been torn away… we owe it to the courage of these victims,” he wrote.

The commission also had access to police files and Church archives, citing only two cases of refusals by Church institutions to turn over requested documents.

Overall, it found that 2.5 percent of French clergy since 1950 had sexually abused minors, a ratio below the 4.4 to seven percent uncovered by similar inquiries in other countries.

While that would imply an unusually high number of victims per assailant, “a sexual predator can in fact have a high number of victims, especially those who attack boys,” the report found.

Paris (AFP) - An independent inquiry into alleged sex abuse of minors by French Catholic priests, deacons and other clergy has found some 216,000 victims from 1950 to 2020, a “massive phenomenon” that was covered up for decades by a “veil of silence.”

The landmark report, released Tuesday after two and a half years of investigations, follows widespread outrage over a string of sex abuse claims and prosecutions against Church officials worldwide.

When lay members of the Church such as teachers at Catholic schools are included, the number of child abuse victims climbs to 330,000 over the seven-decade period.

“These figures are more than worrying, they are damning and in no way can remain without a response,” the president of the investigative committee, Jean-Marc Sauve, said at a press conference.

Sauve had already told AFP on Sunday that a “minimum estimate” of 2,900 to 3,200 paedophiles had operated in the French Church since 1950.

Yet only a handful of cases prompted disciplinary action under canonical law, let alone criminal prosecution.

Francois Devaux, head of a victims’ association, condemned a “deviant system” that required a comprehensive response under a new “Vatican III” council led by Pope Francis.

“You have finally given an institutional recognition to victims of all the Church’s responsibilities, something that bishops and the pope have not yet been prepared to do,” Devaux told the conference Tuesday.

The victim estimates were based in large part on a representative study carried out by France’s INSERM health and medical research institute, with a statistical “confidence interval” of 50,000 people more or fewer.

Sauve and his team of 21 specialists, all unaffiliated with the Church, also interviewed hundreds of people who came forward to recount their histories.

“If the veil of silence covering the acts committed has finally been torn open… we owe it to the courage of these victims,” he wrote.

“Without their testimony, our society would still be unaware or in denial of what happened.”

The commission also had access to police files as well as Church archives, citing only two cases of refusals by Church institutions to turn over requested documents.
